Underground comics: De Verhalen van Jan

In 1971 members of ERCOLA started an underground comic, a "monthly guy's magazine" called Spruit. De Verhalen van Jan (The Tales of Jan), totally in-line with MAFprint's bent for absurdist humour.

Here 'Jan' is a dog, as well as being the alter ego of George Smits. Jan roams through a psychedelic 'underground', peopled by beings right out of Bosch. Both brash and gullible, he winds up time after time amidst the most hallucinating adventures. If it's not petty predators trying to lead him astray, then it's the catty femme fatale attempting to inveigle him. But have no fear... a "happy ending" is inevitably assured.

"We'll draw a few more people. They might be the last."

These comics were published in the following magazines:

Aloha, Amsterdam, No. 21, 25 to 37, 1970

Spruit, Antwerpen, No. 0-4, 1970-1972
