Bernd Lohaus trained as a sculptor, but nonetheless chose painting as a beloved activity.  Through his strategic use of colour, he investigated the spatiality of his pieces.  We may consider this series in the elemental colours of oxblood red, yolk-yellow and pigment-blue, more as conceptual art than as painting.  Lohaus's canvases are placed directly upon the ground; they do not have to be hung.  Their mere presence occupies the space, as it were.
